of the warriors. rick celebrini is the director of sports medicine and performance for the warriors. he's also the dad of 17 year old mcclintock la brea, who the sharks plan to draft with the number one overall pick. maclean grew up in canada, but spent a year playing for the junior sharks when his dad first got the job with the warriors. we were nervous and anxious and to see the sharks win it, win the lottery was was phenomenal. we're a very tight knit family, and to have your son, so close to home would be would be phenomenal. it would be great. oh, my. coming up on june 28th, he said he can't wait till the sun comes here because he'll feed him some dinner and do his laundry. he's only. he's only 17 years old. i know, and he is

[ cheers and applause ] thank you. well guys, this is exciting -- today, the olympic torch arrived in france, and began a a journey across the country that will end in paris on july 26th. everyone in france is pumped to see the torch. right now, people lined up for miles waiting to light their cigarettes off it. "ah, merci, merci. [ laughter ] merci." i am so happy france has the olympics, 'cause honestly, we owed them after burger king made the croissan'wich. [ laughter ]

you know, i think we did -- it was delicious, but, yeah. you guys, today here in new york it was 85 degrees and humid. [ audience oohs ] which is why your coworker who loves bragging about his natural deodorant was pretty quiet today. [ laughter ] "it's called phil's organic and --" [ light laughter ] you guys see this? the judge in former president trump's classified documents case has postponed the trial indefinitely. [ audience oohs ] and to thank the judge, trump sent her a nice bouquet of classified documents. i thought that was interesting. [ light laughter ] trump was like, "1 down, 72 to go." [ laughter ] speaking of trump, yesterday during his hush money trial, he got a warning from the judge, 'cause he was overheard cursing during stormy daniels' testimony. it's not great when a court transcript has worse language than the roast of tom brady, do you know what i'm saying? [ laughter and ohs ] but everyone's talking about stormy's testimony, especially when she mentioned that donald and melania sleep in separate

[ laughter ] and this is strange -- instead of using dewormer, he injected himself with the covid vaccine. who you want, this is supposed to be the guy that you talk to. i like him. he's annoyed a lot of people, because he said some things people don't think are correct. but i do. 'cause, you know, you're the pope. you say, "listen, we welcome everybody. we want everybody at our party. we want everybody. we don't --" >> jimmy: yeah. >> "we're not going to judge you. only god judges you." "bits and pieces." congrats on this. >> thank you. >> jimmy: this is a memoir you wrote about growing up, and your mom and your brother. >> yeah. >> jimmy: and why "bits and pieces"? >> 'cause that's where their memories are. in me. i'm getting -- look, i'm getting older, man. >> jimmy: no, you're not. never. >> oh no. >> jimmy: you'll never get older. >> i want to. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: no, i'm not going to let you. >> no, no, i want to get older. but i wasn't anticipating that i'd be forgetting a lot of stuff. >> jimmy: yeah. >> and so, once i realized that i was starting to -- things

were starting to fade, i thought, well maybe i should write it down. because i kept waiting to mourn everybody. >> jimmy: me, too. >> and i could not figure out why i wasn't, like, wrecked. >> jimmy: yeah. >> and i figured it out. it's because we didn't leave anything unsaid. we always -- we said everything we needed to say to each other every time we saw each other, or every time we spoke. so that's why i couldn't get into the -- "oh, i didn't say" -- i did. >> jimmy: yeah, you did. you said everything. >> yeah, i said. i said it all. and that's why you got to make sure that you tell people while they're living, what they mean to you. because our time on the planet goes like that. and because none of us have expiration dates on our booties, we don't know when it is. so try -- try to remember to tell people you love them. because if they go and you haven't, you're going to regret it. and that's what i'm so glad i'm not doing.

and so, i wrote the book, and remembered all the stuff that was fun. >> jimmy: so many great things -- >> yeah. >> jimmy: --and stories in here. i just loved how like she kind of took you -- she took this -- [ audience aws ] this baby right here. to -- to a beatles concert, by the way. >> yes. >> jimmy: at shea stadium. >> shea stadium. the beatles were this big. [ light laughter ] but my mother was magic like that. >> jimmy: and then, who is clyde? >> my brother. my big brother. my older brother, man. this guy, he was -- he was -- that was my running buddy. and he and i, when i was little -- 'cause he was six years older. he took me everywhere. and when people said, "why are we bringing her?" he said, "because that's my sister." that. >> you need somebody who, like, acknowledges that it's okay for you to be there. and when you're the little sister, you know, you think, oh my gosh. just three of you. but i never felt like i wasn't in my place, with the two of them. you know, my brother came first. he was the boy child. and in those days, boy children were very important. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: yeah. yeah. yes. [ applause ] thank you. >> we -- we love boy children. but you know, when i was little, they always -- you know, they would talk to the boy first. they would always engage. and when my mom got ill, it was during the days when your husband could make sure that you got the treatment that they were telling the doctor -- the doctors were telling them that was needed.

so my mom had two years of, uh, electroshock treatment. and so when she came back, she didn't really know who we were. now, don't, don't. because it worked out. [ laughter ] but you got to read the book because i suspect many of us in this audience have gone through these things with our parents and all this stuff. the only thing i'm going to tell you that i will suggest, remember, your parents were raised by parents. [ laughter ] yeah. >> jimmy: exactly. >> you have to always keep that in mind. 'cause i realized when i was younger that somebody raised my mother. >> jimmy: that's interesting. >> yeah. >> jimmy: my parents were raised -- they had parents. >> they had parents. [ light laughter ] >> jimmy: they know exactly what's up. >> well, they know what's up, but they also only know what they know. >> jimmy: yeah. >> you know? and so they don't always get it right. i didn't. i don't know if you do. i don't think we do. >> jimmy: yeah, i get it all right. [ laughter ] the voices were great, too. the voices were amazing as well. >> and with you. >> jimmy: that was your first met gala? >> yes. >> jimmy: also, speaking of firsts, you just had your first grammy nomination. your first grammy. what are you feeling? are you nervous? do you go, that -- i mean, you know, this is fun. but the grammys, i would freak out. that would make me nervous. >> i felt -- i mean i felt misplaced in my category. i'm such a mega-fan of all of the artists that were in that category. and to be under the same roof as all of them, even once, it was such an honor. and it was so exciting. but it was really emotional, the week leading up to the actual grammys night. i was lucky enough to -- there were different events where we were all in the same place. so actually getting time to get to know the people behind the art -- you know what i mean? >> jimmy: yeah, you meet these people, you hear them on the radio, and you see them and just go, "oh, my gosh." >> but they're just so sincerely unbelievably generous, and kind, and curious, and so warm. and there was such a -- i don't know. the support felt so real that every time i got to meet one of them, i would go home and call my mom and be like, "jelly roll was like -- he better leave

with it. he's the coolest, the kindest." and then coco jones is like the most radiant. and then noah kahan, you're like, "holy [ bleep ]" and then ice spice -- you're just like, "whoa, how does one reconcile with it?" >> jimmy: you're in the club. >> well -- >> jimmy: you're in the club together. you guys are all -- [ cheers and applause ] artists and musicians. >> thank you. >> jimmy: and i know a little about you. i think just from the internet, who knows what is true. but i read that you started out just writing, and you were like, "i'm not sure i even want to perform." >> no, i was terrified of the concept. i started writing songs, or journaling really, when i was like 8 years old because i didn't want to talk to people about feelings. so, i would go and write and journal. and then that kind of led to songwriting. but it wasn't -- the concept of performing to a human being made me terrified. like, the night before my first show, i hadn't played a show pre-covid. so, after quarantine was lifted, we had our first show. it was truly, like, i think

under a hundred people. and the night before, i was, like i'm not -- i'm sorry -- projectile vomiting. so scared. [ light laughter ] >> jimmy: you were that scared? >> yeah. >> jimmy: but then, so you do your performance for 100 people, and you go, "i'll get through it." and then, you go on tour and you open for taylor swift. [ cheers and applause ] and you go -- i mean, what was that whole eras tour like? >> it's so beyond me. i mean, it was the craziest privilege. and we all love her dearly. it's a real master class to watch her do what she does. and it was honestly -- >> jimmy: like what do you mean? master class? >> i felt like i was at college for this job. [ light laughter ] >> jimmy: she taught you stuff. >> i mean, you can't not -- i watched every single one of her shows that i was lucky enough to open for. i think i did 31. i watched from every place possible in each stadium, just trying to pick up on how she is able to do what she does. and she's such a one-of-a-kind person, friend, artist. all the things.

>> jimmy: she's a pro. >> but what she does so unbelievably well in these kinds of rooms is like, sometimes you feel like you're on mars. and then sometimes you feel like the only two people in the stadium are you and her, because she is just so connected to her audience. and the relationship that they have with each other is -- it's really magical. and just to have been in their orbit for a summer was a crazy dream. >> jimmy: yeah. let's talk about "risk." congratulations, pal. this is a big deal.
