president bill ruud left the university this summer to become president at a marietta college in ohio. tonight -- another step forward towards development in waterloo. the waterloo city council is set to talk about the old logan plaza future plans also include a hotel and a convience store. continuing coverage this morning... a teenager is in the hospital after he was shot. police officers had a portion of waterloo -- possibly in connection to the shooting. neighbors tell us police came to their doors around nine o-clock last night -- and told them to stay inside. the teen is expected to be okay. as soon as we learn more -- we a fire destroys a barn at a dairy farm. it happened yesterday afternoon near vinton. firefighters say the barn's feed shed caught fire and it spread to the main milking area. nobody and no animals were hurt -- but vinton's fire chief says

two people hurt after a driver loses control while changing lanes. the linn county sheriff says they were called to highway 13 yesterday afternoon. they say 56-year- old lori billmeyer was driving with her 86-year-old mother when the car rolled. both women were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. they were both wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. a family is grieving after their loved one was killed in a crash this weekend. was coming home from work. the car she was riding in hit the back of a police suv--killing ones and her two year old daughter. "there were people in the place talking about this huge accident on 380 and i just kind of like, i kind of instantly thought like i haven't heard from her today she was supposed to call me today or yesterday" the family says she just announced she was three months pregnant with her second child.

another driver on an interstate. a procession of law enforcement vehicles took his body from the scene. along the way, a group of officers paid their respects as the procession passed by. officers say this tragedy serves as an important reminder of the dangers officers face everyday. "when you see these troopers and you see these law give them the room that they need because if not, this is what happens and it continues to happen on a regular basis." the driver of the vehicle that hit him has been detained for questioning. we'd like to rwemind you -- here in iowa -- move over, slow down is the law. when you see a police car, maitenance vehicle or tow truck with its lights flashing -- change lanes or slow down. drivers who breask this law could be charged a fine.

street. police say the shooter fired several shots sunday morning. one person died -- nine others were taken to the hospital. police say at least 40 officers responded immediately because of several holiday events in the area. "this is the act of just brazen cowards who took these actions into those hands and these are their choices, and now accountable." police say at least 11 arrests least 11 arrests were made this weekend of people illegally rr are injured after a gun battle spanning eight blocks. police responding to a shots fired call found people shooting at each other, then heard numerous shots in the surrounding area. one person was seriously hurt -- the other six are expected to be okay. no word on what started it. a man has been charged with homicide after a teenage boy died after being shot inside a fire department.

"stay strong and just get through it." the suspect is being held without bail. police officers in michigan held a bike ride in honor of a fallen officer. they rode 15 miles in honor of officer collin rose. stopped a man on a bicycle suspected in a vehicle break- in. he later died in a detroit hospital. a man has been arrested in connection to the shooting and is facing murder charges. in chicago -- a funeral was held for the teenage grandson of u-s congressman danny davis. police say he was shot and killed during an argument with two other teenagers over gym shoes. two teenagers have been charged as adults with first-degree murder and home invasion. both were denied bail.

the battle for a city impacting parts of iraq -- as people are being brought to a hospital. it is overwhelmed... with a hundred to 1- hundred and 50 patients arriving each day. but the hospital has a total of less than 2-hundred beds. the injured. have to wait for surgery... as family members are left waiting. "we expect that this will operate immediately at once all the patients." the doctor also says once they are discharged -- some have nowhere to go. on to the white house transition... later today we expect to find out if wisconsin can finish its recount before the electoral college deadline. the green party is challenging election results in three states.
