greenwich wine and food festival and fantastic chefs were there for it. what did i do? i just hosted a -- moderated a panel with all of them and asked every one of them. we know what you do at your restaurants, all fantastic. what you make on the "today" show. but if i were invited personally to come to your house, what would you make for me to represent who you are and what your home is, and everybody had such a completely different answer, that i said, you guys, let's do that one week. and so we put it together. we got everybody coming all this week. >> yes. >> and marcus is heading it up. >> i am. i'm super excited. i'm going to do a cocktail and then a little fish. >> all right. looking forward to that. >> darling picture of you and your little boy in "people" magazine. >> by the way, how cute. your family. >> a great thanksgiving for you. >> absolutely. great for me and my wife. >> what's his name? >> zion.

and years and years. always been good to me. good to me. he knows -- i hated "pulp fiction" so i said it on the air to regis and the next day i got a basket from him saying, kathie, so sorry you hated "pulp fiction." so did my mother. he sends me occasionally ones that he thinks i'll be moved by. there's a movie that's out just going to go full -- full nationwide next week called "lion" with dev patel, nicole kidman and rooney mara. it is simply stunning, and you'll sob your eyes out, it's so moving. that's all i'll tell you about it. >> love it! >> you know what else, saw "allied." >> how was that? >> cody had seen it before. he's my guy. mom, i think you'd really like

>> took me and his girlfriend erica. yeah. last night, if you've never seen mel gibson's movie "patriot," it's an unbelievable one. it was years ago, but, oh, does it stand out. >> you had like movie palooza! >> and cody got me hooked on "the crown." i've never binged watch anything. i watched six episodes of "the crown" but i was bleary eyed. fascinating about princess elizabeth. how much is based on truth? wow! the tr highly recommend it. >> what's it on? hbo or -- >> netflix. >> i think every episode, probably get this wrong, like $7 million. you cannot believe the attention to detail. >> i'm going to watch that. on netflix? i have netflix. >> tell us about the little show you put on. >> we had -- i had my nieces and my mom and my brother, everybody at my house. did all the thing. reminds me how much i love new

rockettes. wasn't just in the hall of 30 block, lester holt and tom was there. both of those guys were there, tom's daughter sarah and their son. at the thanksgiving day parade. >> of course you were. >> kids kept screaming, can you see me, santa? because last year santa looked the other way. was very depressioning. this year we yelled and screamed. and he looked. joel watching as the parade went by. yo same table, just bought two extra chairs and shoved them in. how about that? >> you're a mathematical genius! >> i couldn't believe how awesome it was! >> how about you get a table with a leaf? >> oh. that's a good one, but i never have people over. that's the most people i'll ever have in my house. >> unless you have a table that expanded and then you might. >> maybe. but the cool thing is, i made my nieces every morning when we woke up, we would raise the shades and all say, "good

press a button. we decided that would be the curtain and we would do a broadway show. so i got my guitar out, horrible, and we sang -- they kept saying, can anybody see us? look at all of these windows. some freak is watching us right now. >> wonderful. >> so we did, like a whole thing. we had such a great time with the whole group. so, there's -- we went and saw "wicked." i mean, we did -- the rockettes. >> you're the best aunt in the world. >> went to the park. by the way, the rockettes, if look at this, look at my video. just took this. >> which is illegal. >> oh, it is? >> yes. >> well, watch it anyway. watch this. here we go, and -- >> they do this every year and it never gets old. >> then it went all crazy. >> yeah. >> wasn't that awesome? >> i love it. it never gets old. might have seen it 100 times. my niece, took her every year and then my kids, too, and all

so jim found out this couple was sinking deeper into debt and that was because they had to pay so much for their medications. they only had $30 left until their next social security check. but the kiplings understood jim had to do a job so he took the car. there they were without their car. so it really bugged jim a lot. >> i bet he sees everything, too, in his line of work, you know? probably seen the best and the worst. >> uh-huh. he decided to start a gofundme page, he wanted to raise $3,500 to pay off that car. not only did they raise that $3,500, they received $17,000 in donations from more than 400 people. so here's what jim did, jim repaired and detailed the buick, he delivered the cash -- >> please, stop. >> and a thanksgiving turkey to the kiplings. stan said it was like hitting the lottery and patti says there are very good people out there. >> there are. there are beautiful, wonderful people. >> ah, yeah. love that story.

i couldn't -- i couldn't -- well, i'd go broke. just be -- >> yeah. keep it and you have to pay for it. >> we've lost a good friend. i've known her many, many years. one of the first people you meet when you went out to hollywood. florence was everywhere. the love florence henderson passed away on thanksgiving day at the age of 82. she was a grateful woman. she was always like pinch me happy. i am in this world. i get to make my living this people. she was off -- a half-full type person. >> she did everything you can imagine in showbiz, including anchoring an hour of the "today" show. she was actually the original third hour host of the "today" show along with asha blake and jodi applegate. >> that's right. >> and they started it but she did so many wonderful things. most people -- i remember her from "the brady bunch." you really did learn life lessons. it was just so funny. you learned about things. your family -- >> you wanted her to be your mother.

over the weekend. people are flipping out. the first time a stand-alone movie of "star wars," coming out the 16th of december, about three weeks away. the trailer came out. all new characters with the exception of darth vader who does make an appearance in this. i'm excited about the new droid you see in this trailer, and he really kind of reminds me of c3 po. that vibe. >> i was that for halloween once. >> yes, she was. >> people are going to be lining up for this and people are expecting about $130 million opening. >> how would this compare to the >> i don't think it's going to do the business of the last one because that was just mammoth and part of the overall main -- >> had harrison and it had carrie. >> but this is going to be huge. >> let's talk movies, the weekend box office. how did things do? >> "moana" came out thanksgiving weekend, the disney animated film. loved it so much. loved the music by lin-manuel miranda, oh, my god, a great female character, by the way, not looking for a man or boyfriend.

which is fabulous. and it made $81.1 million, if that number holds, the number two thanksgiving opening weekend of all time behind only "frozen," which made $93 million a few years ago. huge. "fantastic beast" also had a great weekend and made over over $150 million. the news unfortunately not all good, because warren beatty had his first movie in 15 years called "rules don't apply." i really liked. a great old hollywood -- >> l >> people didn't care. it made $2 million over the five-day weekend. >> in wide release? >> very disappointing. and i feel bad. i actually did an event with warren and annette, the academy appreciated the movie but the audiences did not. >> i saw him everywhere promoting that movie. >> he worked very hard for that and there's no rhyme or reason.

do -- you'd think an interest in seeing -- >> sad. because i want hollywood to make more movies like "rules don't apply" that are different and new. >> how about "allied"? i saw that yesterday. >> i really liked it. >> i did too. i didn't hear good things about it. my son is in the film world said, mom, you're going to like it. you really will. not a huge blockbuster, looking for an old-fashioned hollywood movie with some romance and some intrigue, can't go wrong with that. >> maybe part of that is because brad has not really been promoting it. >> true. >> selena gomez made news. >> she hadn't been in the spotlight. decided to take time off, deal with health -- panic attacks, anxiety, depression, side effects of lupus. came back on the amas and did her first instagram post. she's the most followed person on instagram in the world, by the way. did a post the last couple of days with a great picture of her and her fans talking about what a rough year it's been and she needed to take time off. i think people are happy to see her back in a good way. >> she handled it so well.

this past september i was lucky enough to host a panel called "meet the culinary masters" with five amazing chefs at the greenwich wine and food festival. i asked them what would they make for me if i were to come to their house for dinner? >> guess what? all five of them are this week to make a special dish and kicking it off, marcus, owner of the new washington, d.c. restaurant -- >> both: marcus. >> opening in a week or so. >> yes! >> start with a cocktail. >> what's this? >> i grew up in sweden. a little bit of vodka. right? a yes-chef cocktail. pineapple vodka. >> hmm, nice. >> and no straw. check it. no straw. >> real men don't use straws. >> okay. what are you making? >> what we do, we do rub the eggplant with olive oil.
