7 weather team. see the screen for your complete weather information. here is additional forecast information from the kwwl stormtrack 7 weather team: low pressure is moving just north of the iowa- minnesota here in eastern iowa. as it tracks off to the east, we have the potential to see some flurries. a rain/snow mix is possible. southern counties may not see anything except clouds. however, even the northern counties won't see much accumulation by the time all is said and done...highs today overnight, a few lingering flurries are possible. as temperatures fall to near freezing (32f), fog is possible. december begins with near normal highs in the upper 30s/low 40s. more sunshine is likely on friday into saturday as high pressure tracks in. weekend outlook: we will have a big story this morning: a standoff in a snowstorm.

people have been showing up to support the standing rock sioux tribe -- which is upset about the dakota access pipeline. they're worried the pipeline -- which would cover four states, including iowa -- will damage their water supply. yasmin amer tells us about the governor's evacuation order with winter on the way. after nearly five months of protest, officials are turning up the pressure...telling demonstrators official warnings nor the howling winter weather seem convincing. the morton county sheriff's department warned protesters tuesday that they'll start blocking supplies and people from entering the campsite. a spokeswoman for the department later clarified that they'd only stick to punishing trespassers. members of the standing rock sioux tribe...who originally filed the lawsuit against the pipeline...say they're not budging. "water is sacred. but, it's also good business to protect your water resource." north dakota governor jack dalrymple warned protesters about

only get worse. he said that first responders will no longer be responsible for rendering aid to those who stay 17 native americans, who've served under the obama administration, signed a letter asking the president to step in - and allow protesters to stay. the c-e-o of the company - trying to convince protesters the pipeline will be safe. "this pipeline is being built where to your state in 1982. we've not disturbed any historical sites." two pipeline protesters, who chained themselves to equipment in iowa, are now behind bars. they ran past security to the construction site in pilot mound. that's in boone county -- in central iowa. they chained their wrists together inside a p-v-c pipe. firefighters cut the pipe. a state patrol plane was called in to search for others in the group. take...and we are willing to

in our human capacity to protect it." there aren't a lot of active pipeline construction sites left in iowa. the area along the des moines river is the one of the last sections of the pipeline left to finish in central iowa that's why protesters are focusing on it. no one got hurt when a pipeline exploded in missouri. this video shows the huge fire in platte county. that's on the western side of the state. the pipeline's owned by enterprise products partners -- out of louisiana. the company says the pipeline moves an ethane--propane mix from kansas. a five-car crash shut down the julien dubuque bridge yesterday.. some people were taken to the hospital. police say the injuries were not life-threatening. two people have serious injuries

south of hudson. it happened yesterday morning. the black hawk county sheriff's office say a car tried to pass a semi, when the driver lost control and hit a truck going the other way. both the driver in the car and continuing coverage now of a deadly plane crash in colombia. authorities hope the black boxes they found tell them why the plane crashed into the andes mountains. died. on board the plane -- a soccer team from brazil -- on its way championship. three players are among those who survived. south america's soccer federation canceled all scheduled matches -- for now -- in a show of solidarity. sheer devastation. three people have died and many buildings have burned in the tennessee wildfires. the national park service says the fires have burned

so far. the mayor of gatlinburg -- who lost his own home -- says his now, this is a very difficult thing to watch. "it happened so fast it was staggering when you've got wind up to 87 miles an hour pushing fire, i mean people were basically running for their lives." one smoky mountain resort and spa -- with more than 100 buildings -- has like b theme park in tennessee -- dollywood. the park was spared -- but will be closed for the next two days to focus on helping others. dolly parton says she's praying for all the families affected by the fire and the firefighters who are working so hard to keep everyone safe. arrests are made during a rush-hour protest over the minimum wage. police took 21 demonstrators into custody at a busy minneapolis intersection.

billion dollars in profits a year and they don't have enough money to pay their workers for a living wage to make sure they are able to strive and survive out here." a handful of states approved a minimum wage hike up to 15 dollars in state elections this month. four iowa counties are increasing their minimum wage. the federal minimum wage is now to the white house transition: today, the democrats -- fresh off a brusing election in november -- elect their party leaders. nancy pelosi has been the house democratic leader for 12-years. today she faces a challenge by congressman tim ryan of ohio. ryan says it's time for a change in party leadership. ryan says the party has the right policies, but not the right message. there will be no vote recount --

party presidential candidate jill stein has been calling for the recount of the presidential vote in that state. a judge says the recount will begin today -- but it will be done by a machine. the judge saying stein's attorney did not prove a hand mitt romney is now praising the president-elect months after calling donald trump a phony. romney had dinner with trump last night -- the second time state. the last few weeks, he has i've seen in the transition effort. the people he's selected solid and effective, capable people, and some of them i know very well." reince priebus, who will be the white house chief of staff, also met with trump and romney. the president- elect made jobs a big focus of his campaign -- and he's already getting a boost even before he moves into the

donald trump to keep almost one thousand jobs in indiana. he -- and the vice- president elect -- who's from indiana will be in that state today for an official announcement. carrier is an air conditioning company. earlier this year -- it said it would close one plant in indiana and move manufacturing to mexico. today, u-n-i's interim president gets to share his vision for the job he wants on a permanent basis. there's also a public forum this afternoon with jim wohlpart. since bill ruud left earlier this year. neil theobald - another finalist for the president's job -- talked about his plans. he says they have to recruit a more diverse student bod and revisit how standardized test scores are used. he also explained his resignation as president from temple a few months ago. "this summer i was directed to input. i consulted with the provost who was strongly opposed to the appointment. i chose not to break the covenant of shared governance,

to be essential in operating a university." kwwl has a copy of the letter sent to the temple community by the board of trustees which gave a different explanation. the board says a 22-million dollar deficit was discovered in the financial aid budget. that were the responsibility of president theobald and that he must be held accountable. today, the third of three finalists for the job at uni will be announced. the board of regents expects to name a new president next week. alliant energy is hoping to bring new jobs to cedar rapids -- with an industrial park the plan is to have it near the says the big cedar industrial center -- has a lot of potential. jerry moses has passed away. he was 65. moses was a part of east high's incredible seven year unbeaten streak in the late 60's and early 70's. he was twice named a first team all-state running back before someone who tried ot make a positive difference in his hometown. last night, there was a moment of silence in his memory at the east - waverly-shell rock game. services are now pending. the iowa men's basketball team is already young. now it's shorthanded. iowa has lost talented freshman tyler cook for three weeks with a fracture in his right index finger. last night, the hawks on the road facing notre dame. early on -- another freshman --

moments later -- bohannon again -- he finished the game with 7 threes, 23 points. iowa would lead 52-50 with about 15 mintues to go, but then the irish would go on a run and pull away. the hawks lose their third straight -- 92-78. there's so much green to enjoy during the holiday spirit. an n-f-l team known for that color is is also diving into the season. the green bay packers have lambeau field. it's a thirty-five foot tall spruce. one of the owners says the tree has been in his life since he was in "my grandma heard about it and she just submitted it. and then the guys from miron stopped by a few times to check it out and they told us that we were selected." the tree will serve as the centerpiece for the 11th annual festival of lights at lambeau on saturday. it will have more than 10-thousand lights and decorations. when you're raising animals,

trick in the book to solve a problem. even if it's a duck costume. polly the goat - had a big problem. her owner in new jersey says polly has a severe case of anxiety. nothing seemed to help, until one day the woman put an old duck costume on polly as a joke. the next thing she knew, the anxiety was gone and polly was as happy as a clam. the woman later posted a picture online that went viral. ev and i look at your feed everyday and just seeing these little goats and if they can do it, i can do it." she owns a farm with more than two-dozen goats - all with special needs. she plans to expand the farm to

this comes after the first zika case is confirmed there. derick garcia followed screeners and has the latest. up and down- door to door. and looking for standing water in the dark. cameron county health department isn't taking any chances. as zika screeners are monday, cameron county health officials tested positive for the virus. the woman is not zika screeners collected volunteer urine samples for testing between taft and garfield streets and intenational blvd international blvd, 14th and 16th street. this is the perimitter set up because it's where a zika infested mosquito is most likely to breed. "the mosquito doesn't fly about more than a football field." brownsville is tasked with spraying mosquito the silver lining with the first confirmed case "it was only present in the urine which would mean she had already cleared it from her

the community needs to stay on high alert. clear standing water around your home can limit mosquitos from breeding. all week, the city and county will be going door-to-door asking for tests to be done.. they are asking that anyone experiencing zika like symptoms, get tested.
