been arrested -- accused of slashing a woman at a u-s military base in japan. the base is home to the 35-th fighter wing for the u-s air force--, stationed in japan. continuing coverage this morning... buckeye strong. members of the ohio state community come together after an attack on campus. authorities say an 18-year old student plowed into people with a car -- and then started slashing them with a knife. eleven people were injured in the attack... they're all expected to be happen that are unfortunate or that are hurtful to us. when those things happen, what really works for us is to come together in the spirit of unity. and i encourage everyone in our buckeye community to think clearly about that. the alleged attacker was shot and killed by police. in detroit -- a community held a candlelight vigil for an officer killed in the line of duty last week. officer collin rose was shot in

the time of the shooting. he later died fellow officers called rose a great talent and a great officer for the community. his funeral will take place on thursday. brakes fail -- a car crashes into a business. it happened at mulgrew's tavern in east dubuque, illinois yesterday. people were inside at the time. crash on highway 20 yesterday around 4:30 in the morning. nissen noticed another car headed towards his squad car near the ansborough exit... but was unable to get out of the way in time. when the crash happened -- nissen had his emergency lights and siren on.. this officer was actually responding to calls of a wrong-way driver on highway 20... he knew he may be headed towards a dangerious situation... shows that our men and women in blue risks their lives every day just this year.. two police officers in des moines were killed after a wrong-way driver crashed into them. live in waterloo... amanda gilbert... news 7 kwwl. the other driver in the crash... 27- year-old erick james anderson... was charged with an o-w-i second offense... no insurance.... failure to have control... and driving

one person is dead and three others hurt after a car crashes off a los angles freeway, landing on a homeless camp. police say at least one person was trapped under the car. it's still not clear what caused the crash. the truck driver who crashed into a van carrying comedian tracy morgan two years ago, pleads guilty. he was driving a wal-mart truck when he crashed into morgan's van on the new jersey turnpike. morgan suffered serious injuries in the crash and comedian james mcnair was killed. a miraculous recovery. a boy who nearly died after getting hit by a car is now communicating with his family. leighton pullin was hit by a car crossing a waterloo street last month. the seven-year- old was rushed to iowa city and has been recovering ever since. the family invited kwwl's lauren moss into leighton's hospital room - to check in on his recovery. give me a thumbs up... a thumbs up....an act of leighton pullin's family in means so much more. i said if you know this is grandma give me a thumbs up, and he went like this and i said

pulled my firearm and i pulled the trigger. if convicted, slager could get 30 years in prison. an oklahoma police officer who shot and killed a man in september will stand trial for manslaughter. officer betty shelby was charged te in september, which was captured on camera. the judge decided to go ahead with the trial after reviewing the video in the courtroom. shelby said he disobeyed her commands and she thought he was trying to get a weapon from his car. but police videos showed crutcher with his arms in the air before the shooting. investigators never found any weapons in his car. working towards a solution. people come together in waterloo to talk about vioelence. this year the city's seen three

his life to protect and serve.. he's now out of the hospital with minor injuries. kwwl's amanda gilbert joins us live in waterloo... you can tell us more about what happened. waterloo police officer mark nissen responding to calls about a wrong-way driver on highway 20. he headed toward the area where the driver was- knowing he was headed toward a dangerous situation. when nissen found the driver unable to get out in-time. nissen's car was hit head on shortly after 4:30 in the morning... the officer was taken to allen hospital with minor injuries. this happens just days after a cedar rapids police car was hit while officers were responding to an accident. last spring.. two officers in des moines were killed after a crash with a wrong-way driver.

officer nissen is now out of the hospital... but will be given a that it is a law in iowa to move over and change lanes to create a safe zone for officers on the side of the road. here's another example from the last week -- two cedar rapids police officers taken to the hospital over the weekend. a car hit their s- u-v after they were called to another crash. the in the other car died, matrell watson was 22 years old. his family is now trying to five-year-old -- her dad is gone.
