right now on "nbc 10 news toda today", getting out of the dark. crews are restoring power to tens of thousands still without electricity following friday's storm. we're live in a neighborhood expecting help this morning. cleaning up the mess. the storm knocked down so many trees, it will take time and effort to get them all cleared up. oh, my god! >> talk about a close call caught an camera. a downed tree and a blown transformer happening all at once in the aftermath of the storm. ed good thing is that the storm is out of here. now the cleanup. good morning. this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm rosemary can noronnors.

>> i'm dray clark. lot of people still in the dark from the storm we had. a look at the first alert neighborhood weather. krystal klei is here with her most accurate forecast in town. >> the problem with the fact that so many still have power out is it is cold out there. we have not warmed up. we're looking at chilly conditions and many folks who got hoe tolls because of this. take a look at the temperatures. we're still under the influence of that system that brought us all of the rain and snow on friday. no longer any rain or snow. it's really the winds to contend with. they're not as strong as yesterday. but it is breezy out there. it will be breezy the rest of today. as a result, it's going to feel colder than it truly is. if you stepped outside yesterday, it was chilly out there. 29 in philadelphia where it's 30 in wilmington and 29 in reading. feels like temperatures at 31 degrees at the atlantic city airport. pretty much all of us feeling

below freezing. on our radar and satellite, even the clouds yesterday, especially in the late afternoon, were moving out. we had beautiful sunsets yesterday with that mix of clouds and sunshine. today the clouds thin out even more. as we trend through the next few hours, we'll go from an actual temperature of 38 degrees to upper 30s at 8:00 a.m. still breezy. the winds won't let up. but the temperatures and the sky conditions are looking a little better. we'll talk more about what to expect neighborhood by neighborhood as we go hour by hour. >> thanks, krystal. crews have plenty of work ahead of them to get the power back on to thousands without it. >> the storm took out power to more than 616,000 peko customers. now at 133,000.

>> pique owe was getting help from outside. >> illinois sent help. >> randy gyllenhaal is live where neighbors are without power. randy? >> reporter: this is why the lights are still out in so many neighborhoods. take a look behind me. two days after the storm and you've still got gigantic trees like this one blocking roads, hanging on to power lines. this is on williamson road in glad win. while some homes don't have power, a few streets away they do have power. it's all really random. depends where you live, what street you're on, whether crews have gotten to you yet. montgomery county still has about 40,000 outages. in delaware county, that's the number one county we're seeing even more. in fact, in delaware county, a third of the entire county lost power at the peak. county officials there signed a disaster declaration yesterday. that opens up more resources. we found people in montgomery and delaware counties finding

maine. well over a million households were still without power. in quincy, massachusetts, the national guard evacuated people to shelters. the storm also forced thousands of flight delays and cancellations, closed roads and prijs and shut down amtrak's northeast corridor. there's familiar sounds echoed in and around of the area yesterday. chainsaws and chippers got a workout as crews clear the way. >> finally calmed down now. now hopefully we can get like some response to fixing stuff and getting our power back. >> down the shore, minor flooding in the back bays forced people to wade through knee-high water to get to their cars. >> oh, my god. >> holy [ bleep ]. >> that is a frightening response to a chain reaction that happened last night. it happened in havertown

delaware county. a transformer caught fire. a driver hit the brakes on his car as another tree fell hitting his hood. luckily, the driver was not hurt. also in delaware county, several trees toppled over next to this house in drexel hill yesterday. you can see the pile of broken branches next to the home. the falling tree just missed causing major damage to the house. if you are without power and your phones and tablets getting low on juice, comcast opened up xfinity stores to log in and power up. go to any store and bring your devices. comcast, by the way, is the parent company of nbc 10. happening now, part of roosevelt boulevard is shut down because of this accident. the driver crashed into a tree at the boulevard and friendship street in may fair just after 4:00 this morning. medics rushed a woman to the hospital in critical condition. all southbound lanes are closed between friendship street and

cottman avenue. keep that in mind if you're headed out. let's go to south jersey. news out of atlantic county where a police officer is recovering after a suspected drunk driver slammed right into his patrol car. it happened on route 322 in hamilton township friday night during the height of the storm. the officer was diverting traffic because of downed power lines. that's when the driver crashed into the front of the officer's car. the driver was not hurt. but he is facing a number of charges. 5:37 right now on this sunday. coming up, it's hollywood's night to shine. we'll preview the academy awards. >> a woman's history month to get girls up to speed on everything high tech.

31 degrees. below freezing. look at the actual temperatures here. this is the impact of the winds we're still battling thanks to that system from two days ago now. 36 in pottstown. 38 in wilmington and 39 in atlantic city. we've got the upper 30s, even low 40s for actual temperatures. you can see the only spot that's sitting below the freezing line in our region is mt. pocono where some reports of almost 2 feet of snow fell. that area is going to stay around freezing territory. wind gusts, this is a good sign. they're not like they were yesterday. instead, only gusts at around 20, 25 miles per hour. not even reporting philly, dover or toms river at this point. only into the 30s at best for the highest gusts that we see this afternoon. nonetheless, winds around 15, 25 miles per hour. the feels-like trend. 10:00 a.m. in philadelphia, 31 degrees, feeling like 37 in the

doing great. >> barkley, by the way, hosted snl for the fourth time. >> i'm here for the fourth time. >> now, your nbc 10 first alert weather. meteorologist krystal klei here. let's start out with a live camera view over center city and philadelphia. this is over the delaware river that we're looking. it's really dark but kind of pretty picture. there's nothing falling. no rain, no snow to worry about. in fact, if you're outside, at least in center city, i can tell you that any of snow that did fall has pretty much melted away. now i'm in the suburbs, i can tell you same deal. only a few piles i saw as i was driving into work. most of the snow that fell is a memory in the past. that memory is about to be jogged. more on that in a moment. let start with the radar and satellite view. the clouds are thinning out. we have some of the high thinner clouds along the eastern edge of our viewing area. but areas like chester county, berks county getting breaks in the clout coverage.

each if you start with a milky sky in morning, i think we're going to trepd to a better sky in the afternoon. the winds will be an issue with the winds coming from the north and the northwest. just like yesterday. not as gusty as yesterday, but we've been taking it down a notch day i. day. we're looking at gusts at 25 to 35 miles per hour. the sustained winds still around 20 miles per hour. it does mean that it's breezy throughout the day with periodic stronger winds, which also means if you're doing cleanup today, it will be a little bit of an annoyance but not as bad as yesterday. that's the good news. temperatures today, right in the mid-40s. similar to yesterday. 46 degrees in philadelphia. 45 in the pennsylvania suburbs. 46 in south jersey and 47 in delaware. again, i'm talking about this for the morning. it's going to feel colder than it actually is because of those winds much even though it will be in the mid-40s, it's going to

feel more like the upper 30s for highs. run through the hour-by-hour model. this is lunchtime. it's a pretty clear picture. lunchtime into the evening, same deal. this is going to be a nice day if you need to get outside. it will be chilly. make sure you have a couple layers on. monday morning, same deal. fairly clear picture and a mostly sunny forecast right through the afternoon hour. stopping the clock here at 5:30, 6:00 p.m., i want to pull this view out much further and go through as we track along to 8:00 p.m. on tuesday. we're looking at what could be, could being the key word, another coastal storm driving by. this is at 8:00 on your tuesday that this model brings in a little bit of rain, possibly a mix farther north and west. we go from tuesday night into your wednesday morning and then into wednesday evening, rather, it looks like the system skipped a point here. i'll show you that that starts to drop. the rain/snow mix on through philadelphia and each into parts
