right now on "nbc 10 news today," storm cleanup. the work continues to remove downed trees and debris. crews are racing to restore electricity to thousands without power and heat. we're live following the efforts to get the lights back on. deadly shooting. two men gunned down in a car. one of them was killed. this morning, police are trying to figure out what provoked the gun man. fire fundraiser. what a popular philadelphia restaurant is forced to close is now doing to help employees out of work.

plenty to get to. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today." i'm rosemary connors. i'm dray clark. we're still trying to get the power back on for a lot of people. let's get to our first alert weather with meteorologist krystal klei and the most accurate forecast in town. >> the problem is it's cold outside. people with no electricity may not have heat and unfortunately, this is what it feels like outdoors. coatsville at 25 degrees. the feels-like temperature because of the winds, 28 in philadelphia. 30 for mt. holly. vineland and atlantic city at 31 degrees. the winds not nearly as strong as they have been the last couple of days, but still breezy to low end windy throughout the day. here are the actual temperatures. about a 10-degree difference from the feels-like. 37 in allentown. 38 in philly. almost 40 in atlantic city. the temperatures will continue to climb into the mid-40s again

this afternoon. take a lock at radar and satellite. we have high clouds like yesterday. kind of that milky sky is what i expect once the sun is up. the good news, they're going to continue to pull out and thin out off to the east with that storm center still slowly chugging away from us. so that means we're going to have more sunshine in the forecast as we start to progress into the afternoon. how about the temperature trend? we're not going to climb a ton, but we'll go from upper 30s into the mid-40s this afternoon. it was mid-40s because the winds will feel more like, yep, the mid-30s. we are going to have a huge warmup today. still chilly. like i mentioned, the good news is sunshine in your forecast. we'll talk more about the rest of the neighborhoods for today coming up. >> looking forward to that sunshine, thanks, krystal. crews are working around the clock to repair hundreds of thousands of outages from the storm. peco has more than 128,000 customers without power. that's an improvement, though, at the height of the storm they

had over 600,000 people without it. ppl has the next highest number of with more than 13,000. peco hopes to have most repairs finished by monday night at the latest. >> that's no consolation for some. randy gyllenhaal is live in bryn mawr with more on efforts to get the power back on. >> reporter: you don't see snow on the ground anymore, but the reason we still have lights out all across the region is because of scenes like this. a massive tree down, still two days later. this is on williamson road in glad win hanging on to power lines. we do have power -- it depends whether crews have gotten to you. montgomery is number 2, delaware county is number one with more outages. in delaware county, a third of

the entire county lost power. county officials there signed a disaster declaration yesterday. that opens up more resources for emergency crews, but there are some success stories we're already hearing. we found a restaurant in ambler that finally had the power turned back on. >> around 2:30, our power went out. pretty much hung out here a little bit to see if it would come back on. it didn't. we closed that this morning around 11:00 i think our power came back on. because of the power going out everywhere, we lost a lot of food deliveries. >> the outages affecting businesses as well as people's homes. peco tells us bryn mawr is one. hardest hit towns. they have a lot of power lines down. a lot of trees still down. peco expects to have crews in bryn mawr in a little bit. about 8:00 this morning. it could take until monday to get most people their power back on. there could be isolated cases where it's the middle of this

week. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. trying to get around this tree here. the tree hung up in power lines. utility crews are working to clean up all of the damage. comcast would like to help you power up after this powerful storm. you can head to any one of the xfinity stores sta plug in and power up your devices. comcast is the parent company of nbc 10. as the major storm pulled away yesterday, things got busy at pihiladelphia's 30th street station. trains started running again. many spent the night at the station because amtrak canceled all trains from friday afternoon to yesterday morning. most septa trains are back on track, but with delays. rail lines that are still out of service include chestnut hill east and west trenton. falling trees landed on the tracks. as for septa buses and trollies,

many were on detoured routes. the agency is hoping to restore service by tomorrow. one man is dead, another in critical condition after pk p. a shooting in philadelphia. it happened at 6th and spring garden street in northern liberty. someone opened fire on the men while they were sitting inside of that car. the shooter took off in a silver colored car. we've learned new about this accident that shut down roosevelt boulevard. this is a hit and run. initially, they were talking about it as the driver hitting a tree. right now they're looking for the second car involved in this incident. officers were called to the boulevard and friendship street just after 4:00 this morning. reports that a woman had hit a tree. she is in critical condition in the hospital. all inner southbound lanes of boulevard are closed between friendship street and cot monday avenue in may fair. police continue to look fort second car. in other news, a 48-year-old man is dead after crashing into this fence.

this happened around midnight in philadelphia's east falls neighborhood. police tell us the driver lost control and then hit the fence here at a septa station. they're investigating why the crash happened. 6:07 now on this sunday. a philadelphia restaurant closed by a building fire on the block will hold a fundraiser for its employees. workers at the little lion restaurant at third and chestnut streets will be off the job for at least two months, could be more. the benefit today, including a silent auction is set format rex's in fish town. it happened from 1:00 to 4:00 this afternoon. the fire on february 1th. you may remember it started in this historic building. condos above. two firefighters with minor injuries. the city is preparing the structure for demolition. local and federal investigators are still looking for the cause of this fire. happening tomorrow, bill cosby's lawyer are expected to throw out a sexual p p p assault

before his retrial. there are claims of lack of evidence and misconduct by prosecutors. the comedian is accused of drugging and sexually assaulting former temple employee at his montgomery home in 2004. the retrial is scheduled for next month in norristown. also happening, the philadelphia community will remember a hero killed in the line of duty. a vigil will be held for sergeant robert wilson iii. the officer was killed in a shootout inside a game stop store in north philadelphia on march 5, 2015. community members, family and fellow officers will gather at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow outside of the 22nd police district where he served to honor him on the anniversary of his murder. 6:08 right now. coming up, pro and con. we'll take you to a student anti-gun rally in georgia that squared off against pro gun protesters this weekend.

welcome back. i'm meteorologist krystal klei. with the high tides, we're looking at a coastal flood advisory. this is downgraded from the warning yesterday. yesterday we didn't see too terribly much flooding. the areas shaded in green, the jersey shore and delaware beaches from 8:45 to 9:45 this morning, some minor tidal flooding is possible with the high tides and that's why the advisory is in place. take a look at the jersey shore. 39 degrees right now. still fairly cloudy this morning. winds are at about 14 miles per hour. we're going to stay on the breezy side. gusts around, i think, 25, 30 miles per hour. so they're certainly possible

into the afternoon. temperaturewise, we'll go from 30s on into the 40s. 45 degrees at lunchtime. that pretty much stays to upper 40s possible for high temperatures and look at the icon. mostly sunny conditions in the afternoon. so it's going to be a fairly nice day at the shore. aside from the potential for some of that tidal flooding this morning. this is a live camera view. it's very pretty. we still have cloud overhead. they will thin and pull out farther east as the storm center pulls away from us. noontime at 44. same deal into the mid-40s with sunshine this afternoon. remember, it feels like the 30s because of those winds. we'll talk more about conditions unfortunately deteriorating with another storm system moving in this week coming up. happens about every march. thanks, krystal. also coming up, targeted tariffs. president trump getting specific about his proposed levies on

secret service is looking into the background of a man who shot and killed himself outside the white house fence yesterday. he was armed with a handgun. he fired no shots at the white house which went into lockdown immediately. president trump and the first lady were away in florida at the time. a showdown at dueling rallies. high school students in georgia, marching for stricter gun laws come face to face with counter protesters backing the second amendment. >> the situation unfolded yesterday in the atlanta suburbs. the students speaking out on gun reform were met by those chaptering support forearming teachers to keep them safe.

the confrontation was peaceful. in florida, a group of educators protested those -- it's up for debate. it was near the site of the massacre. 17 people died in that shooting. teachers at the rally insisted that putting guns in their hands is not the solution. >> there's not a single teacher or student that i've spoken to over the past several days about this topic that thinks it's a good idea to introduce more guns into our classrooms. >> again, that's what's being proposed in tallahassee. florida lawmakers have until friday to decide on the legislation. new this morning, west virginia teachers saying they will strike again after lawmakers did not give them their promised raise. the teachers negotiated a 5% raise with the governor. but last night the republican-controlled senate voted to lower the rate to 4%. teachers say they'll be back on the picket line starting monday morning. schools statewide have been

be put in prison for more than a decade. he became infamous for raising the price of a drug by 5,000%. target and costco led another earnings week dominated by retailers. we'll also hear from beer, wine and sears giant and -- the largest maker of recreational vehicles. finally, a wrinkle in time jumps to silver screen with help from oprah winfrey and reese witherspoon. it goes into wide release on friday. i'm courtney reagan. get all your business news on cnbc. i'm meteorologist krystal klei. we're starting with that live camera view in wilmington, delaware. pretty shot as well. the clouds are extending and pulling farther away. a little more sunshine than yesterday morning in wilmington and a lot more sunshine by this afternoon. yesterday, we were getting that sneak peek. we had beautiful sunsets yesterday evening.

if you were watching the show at 6:00, i texted him, oh, my goodness, those pick tushs. ocean city, new jersey, we've got a building that covered up the cloud view. here we go. the clouds hanging over the jersey shore as well. they've been out front of mostly sunny conditions in the afternoon hours. as for the temperatures along the shoreline, mostly in the upper 30s. 38 in avalon, 39 in atlantic city. cape may point at 39 degrees as well. remember, it's feeling colder because we're breezy to windy out there and we will remain this way through the day. the whole day, we're going to have a battle with actual temperatures versus what it feels like. there's a look at radar and satellite. those clouds, as you can see, pulling away farther to the east. that's because that storm that impacted us on friday, the center of it has slowly been moving away farther to the east of us. it's pulling the clouds with it. that's going to allow us to see more sunshine, especially in the

afternoon hours. here's the forecast wind. 25 to 35 miles per hour gusts. this afternoon, the gusts could pick up a little bit. right into the 30, 35 mile per hour range. that's the highest we go. not as high as we've seen the previous two days. notice the winds are coming in from the northwest which means we're not going to see a huge warmup with the temperatures. we'll have highs in the mid-40s. 45 in summer ton. 43 in pottstown. right in the low mid-40s and parts of berks county. for new jersey, 46 in berlin. 47 for stone harbor and rehoboth beach. mostly sunny and then look at the number in blue. that's the feels-like temperature this afternoon. pretty much all of them consistently in the upper 30s. the question is, are we talking another coastal storm? it's looking more and more likely as models come into agreement. they're still spread out, which is how much rain or snow. take a look. this is just one computer model's projection from monday to tuesday morning.

fifteen percent or more. now to an nbc 10 special report. all this week, nbc 10 has been looking at one of the nation's leading causes of bankruptcy. we're talking medical debt. finding your way out may seem like a never ending uphill battle. >> someone struggling with medical debt and a nonprofit's way to raise money. >> lisa maldonado makes good money as a child psychologist. she's putting two kids through college. last year she got a lesson in medical debt. >> i was fine. next morning, i had no control of my left side from my waist down. >> maldonado went to the e.r. and received alarming news. >> i needed emergency surgery.

crews are working overtime to restore power to thousands. following friday's storm, live in a neighborhood expecting help sometime this morning. cleaning up the mess. the storm targeted trees, knocking them down in neighborhoods all across our area. we're tracking the efforts to clear away that debris. talking about a close call. caught on camera, a downed tree and a blown transformer happening all at the same time in the aftermath of the storm. good morning. welcome back to nbc 10 news. i'm dray clark. i'm rosemary connors. it's 6:30 on this sunday. we're getting a little reprieve from the wind yesterday. krystal klei has the details in

the first alert neighborhood forecast. krystal. >> let's talk about the conditions outside. first off, got to go with the wind again. just like yesterday, still windy this morning. but the winds are not as strong as they were yesterday and certainly not as strong as friday itself. same direction the wind are coming in from the north and northwest. these are the sustained winds. gusts a smidge higher. again, today will be on breezy side than the windy side. this is good news that the winds are weakening slowly. nonetheless, those kind of winds make it feel colder than it actually is. here's the feels-like temperature. 30 for the chill in pottstown. 28 in philadelphia and 38 in millville. trenton, feeling like 29. and look at mt. pocono, feeling like 17 degrees with the snow pack up there. it's helping to make it feel so much colder outside. as for your radar and satellite view, the good news is that the storm center that brought us the impacts on friday has been very slowly tracking farther and farther to the east of us.

it's pulling the clouds with it. meaning that we still have clouds in place. they're thinning out and breaking some. more sunshine is expected today than yesterday and especially in the afternoon hours. .next few hours, the actual temperature right now is 38 degrees. above freezing. we'll go to 39 at 9:00 a.m. by noontime, into the 40s. those 40s, they stick around for a few days. but then we have another system moving in. we'll talk more about that coming up. crews have been working overtime around the clock to get the power back on for people who are in the dark and without heat. >> at its worst, the storm took out 616,000 peco customers, a number so large, it's hard to say. that number is just below $128,000. the latest numbers from pse and g and others. peco is getting help from crews outside of pennsylvania. >> crews from illinois are here.

and other utility companies will arrive later on today. randy gyllenhaal is live in gladwyne, montgomery county, still in the dark. a lot of folks have invested in generators at this point, randy? >> reporter: yeah. you can hear that buzzing from generators. you mentioned the help from other states. they need it. two days after the storm, there are massive trees down. this is williamson road in gladwyne. some homes here have power. a few streets away they might not. it depends on whether the crews have gotten to your specific neighborhood yet. about 40,000 outages remain in montgomery county. that's the number 2 county. delaware county is the number one county. a third of the entire county lost power at the peak of this thing. county officials had to sign a disaster declaration which opens up more resources for emergency crews and first responders, power crews.

people, however in cold dark homes are finding creative ways to stay warm. >> went out about 6:00 yesterday. we're going to stay warm. have a couple beers. >> seems like you got to make do, right? >> that's all you can do. that's it. all we can do. >> reporter: trash can, campfire in your driveway. bryn mawr is one of the hardest hit areas that has a ton of power outages and downed wires. peco tells us, they're hoping to have a number of trucks in bryn mawr by 8:00 this morning. it could take until monday to get the vast majority of people back online with a few isolated cases maybe into the middle of the coming week. in gladwyne, randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. thank you, randy. at least nine people have died in the major storm. a man was killed in north jersey touching live power lines the wind blew down on friday night. the storm with the flooding

rains, powerful waves left a trail of damage from the carolinas to maine. as of last night, well over a million households were without power. in quincy, massachusetts, the national guard evacuated people to shelters. the storm also forced thousands of flight delays and cancellations, closed roads and bridges and shut down amtrak's northeast corridor. >> the sound after the storm. crews cleared away downed trees with the help of chainsaws and chippers yesterday. the warm sunshine was a welcome condition for those who spent the day cleaning up. >> finally calmed down now. but hopefully we can get some response to take some stuff and get our power back. >> down the shore, minor flooding in the back bays like here in ventnor forced people to wade to knee-high water to get to their cars. >> oh, my god!

[ bleep ] >> it all started with a downed tree in havertown, delaware county. at the same time, a transformer at the site also caught fire. a driver hit the brakes on his car as another tree fell hitting his hood. luckily, the driver was not hurt president. also in delaware county, several trees toppled over next to this house in drexel hill yesterday. you can see the pile of broken branches next to the home. it just missed causing major damage to that house. this morning, philadelphia police are looking for a hit and run driver who crashed into a woman's car and then fled the scene. officers responded to the roosevelt boulevard and friendship street just after 4:00 this morning in may fair. after the woman's car hit this tree. the second car investigators believe they're look for could be a yellow hummer with front end damage. the victim, in the meantime, is in critical condition. all inner southbound lanes are

closed between friendship street and cottman avenue. we're following news out of atlantic county where a police officer is recovering after a suspected drunk driver slammed right bo his patrol car during the height of the storm. the officer was diverting traffic on to route 50 because of downed power lines. that's when the driver crashed into the front of the officer's car. the driver wasn't hurt but he's facing a number of charges. 6:37 right now on this sunday. just about 38 degrees outside the nbc 10 studios. hollywood rolling out the red carpet for the 90th annual academy awards. coming up, a preview of the big night and who is among the favorites to take home an oscar. plus this -- i have a great work ethic, i'm responsible and when i was important, i was 3 feet tall and weighed 26 pounds. >> charles barkley hosted "saturday night live." more of what sir charles had to say making his voice heard

philadelphia. 39 atlantic city. georgetown and dover. we're at 36 in coatsville and allentown, you're at 37 degrees. the only spot below freezing in mt. pocono. 27 the current reading. let's talk about the feels-like conditions. it's going to feel colder than it is outside. we should make it to the mid, upper 40s this afternoon. notice at 3:00 in the afternoon, it's sunny but chilly. 37 for the feels-like temperature in philly. 35 degrees for the feels-like at 3:00. that's going to be somewhere back town to 27 by 7:00 tonight. the lehigh valley, sunny and only 31 degrees for the windchill this afternoon. so it's going to feel around freezing in the lehigh valley. upper 30s for delaware. mostly sunny in new jersey, 37 for your feels-like. at the jersey shore, same deal. feeling like upper 30s. it will be in the mid-40s actually. we'll talk about the next storm that's going to impact our region. unfortunately, may bring more snow coming up. we're not out of winter yet.

at the airport 38 degrees. we've got the temperatures in the 30s. remember it actually feels more like the upper 20s because of the breezy to windy conditions. we're still deal with this today. >> there's the clouds i was talking about. they're slowly pulling this direction off to the east. that's going to help to bring more sunshine to the region. really make for a nice forecast. this morning, we do still have to watch those high tides along the jersey shore as well as our delaware beaches. coastal flood advisory. this is downgraded from the warning of yesterday. yesterday, we saw minor to borderline moderate flooding. that was because the winds, as i mentioned yesterday helped us out. they were more northwest and that really assisted with not as much of an issue when it came to coastal flooding. still minor tidal flooding is possible along the coastal points. a heads up to those with a home against the shoreline.
